Leavenworth Wanderings - Part 1

This year on our annual trip to Leavenworth in eastern WA we stayed at the KOA campground just east of town so we wouldn't have to contend with Hwy 2 road work and detours to get to our usual campground west of town in the Tumwater Canyon.

This is the view from our section of the KOA campground. There's a trail through the open grassy area behind the Safeway store that puts you out on Highway 2. From there you can follow it on into town. (Maybe 1-1/4 miles to start of downtown. Gave me extra exercise in addition to my runs!)

Crossing the bridge over the Wenatchee River...some beautiful views of the river: northeast

One day I explored a little bit of a road that is part of the Leavenworth Oktoberfest Marathon (coming up on October 3. Larry & I are registered for the half.)

Found a road leading to an interesting inn by the river:

After the short detour, back on the road again, I couldn't resist a shot of this "Leavenworth Mansion."

Then I saw a road going down to the river, so had to investigate it, too. I found myself on the opposite side of the river from where I'd been before in the riverside park--across the river in the photo:
