Two Mile Walk on Crutches! (Mom, Part II)

Last weekend was gorgeous! We had camping reservations at Bay View State Park, which is east of Anacortes on Padilla Bay. I managed to negotiate truck and trailer with my sore leg and back. Also, I had signed up for the Bay View Women's Walk/Run, a charity event benefiting Domestic Violence/Assault Services (of Skagit County) on May 17. I had been training diligently for the 10K run, which would have been a great run on mostly dirt/gravel trail. But due to my condition, I switched to the two-mile walk. The course followed the road south to the Padilla Bay Dike trail. The one-mile turnaround was a little ways down the trail. I got lots of cheers and "way to goes" as I trekked with my crutches! It took me somewhat over an hour to do the two miles (I stopped briefly for MP3 adjustment, photos, and a sip of water.)

Here's what the dike trail looked like: (Maybe someday when I'm healthy again, we can go back and do the complete length.)

Here I am with my finisher ribbon!
My back is much better, but my right leg/hip is still sore (my chiropractor has helped my back a lot). So I'm not giving up the crutches just yet. Besides, I'm getting to be such an "expert" on them!
Look for more photos in my next post of a couple of cool places we also visited in Skagit County and Bellingham last weekend.

Oh I love camping up there. I've never been to that campground but we always went to deception pass. Good workout on crutches. I hope your recover is swift.

Great job! You were going to run 10k? Wow, that's great. Heading to Chelan Conv. this weekend with Grandpa. Always a wonderful weekend...
