More photos of Messy Monkey #2's room (taken a couple weeks ago):
Her collection of cups that belong in the kitchen:Messy Monkey #1 let her room get really bad, then fractured a bone in her foot on the 8th, and now her room is going to be like this for almost permanently, unless someone helps her out. Any volunteers?
This is the upstairs bathroom after Messy Monkey #2 got done with it this morning:
Under the mirror is a bag of cotton/cosmetic puffs that she stole from Mom's bathroom! (Grrr...)

Oh my goodness Shirley...wow! Can they actually fit in their beds to sleep? Is that an American Doll buried in the first pic on this post? Maybe Rosanna can sell it to help pay for some cleaning lady help! :)
If my kids don't clean their room, or their bathroom, I do. However if I clean it, I also reserve the right to get rid of anything that I decide goes. And, if they consistently leave stuff out in the bathroom or some other area of the house where it doesn't belong, it's gone. About the time a favorite sweater or their hair/cosmetic items are gone, and you do it consistently, they're a little more careful about what they leave out. It's my house, and I'm the mom, so I set the rules. If they don't like it, they can do whatever they like when they move out.
It's probably so overwhelming to them that they can't deal with it at this point. As the mom, I'd be pretty miserable having to look at it, and I imagine actually they are miserable about it too. Clutter is very draining mentally as well as physically.
I seriously recommend flylady---She changed my life!
Hi Shirley....WOW...you're right about the messy monkeys messies!!! I can't deal with messes...but my kids love to go on the computer after school or read their books, so, they have to have their rooms CLEAN before they get that privilege. Maybe if your girls aren't into the computer or reading, but they're into sports or going to the mall or whatever, just WITHHOLD privileges until you get what you want from them. It's amazing how quickly their rooms get clean when it's something that THEY want to do! The J's comment about being consistant AND also, you cleaning it up but you taking whatever you want also works. But I sure haven't had a problem with withholding privileges...and being consistent...everyday. It does work! :-)
Yes, phone & computer privileges are also withheld at this house, since that's their main "wants"! (for my 14 & 17 yr old) for my younger kids, it's playing with friends or outside activities. And yes, I get the "Mean Mom award" often! Oh well, that's my job!
oh!! how funny...the word verification down here is "messes"!!!
