For Sale: One Childhood Home

I lived here until I was 22-1/2, when I finally found a roommate and moved into an apartment. Then after my roommate finished school, we moved out of the apartment, and she returned to her home state, and I returned home for a few weeks before moving to Washington State, not quite one month after my 23rd birthday. Then for 24 years, I made periodic trips home to see my parents and sister, etc. --a 19-year span while married.

The house was full of my mom's artwork, and my sister and I have been dividing it up and giving some away. We took home several paintings and various little pieces of art. Here's some stuff we had to leave behind:
A painting of the red rocks near Sedona, AZ that my mom did from a photograph, in which she left out this church that is actually constructed up amid the rocks.

Miscellaneous artwork:

Now for the biggest masterpiece: Mount Shuskan, WA. My mom painted this from a calendar picture when I was in high school (so sometime in the late '70's). In 1985, after moving up to WA, I drove up to see Mt. Shuskan in real life for the first time. My mom and dad also went to see it on their way to convention in Duncan, B.C. that year.

One more painting--this barn might be located in WA, too. My mom liked to paint barns (among other things!).

Sorry your family's moving, it's so hard to get rid of where you grew up.

Ironically I just started looking at houses in the valley this weekend, but I'm looking in south Scottsdale mainly, as we really like the area.

Wow Shirley, I had no idea your mom was such an artist. Beautiful pictures.

Your mom's paintings are beautiful. What a wonderful legacy she left behind.

I agree with the others, your mom left you with some real treasure in her artwork. I have finally been able to start trowing away the partially finished paintings of my moms, the others I took photos of before they were separated and made into a book. Thankful to have a piece of her life hanging in my home.
