You might have heard about people driving off with something left on the top of their car, a belonging, etc...
On the afternoon of July 15, I was trying to load my bike on the bike rack that hubby had installed the previous evening and decided ask him a question about it, so I was talking on my phone. After ending the call, I put my phone in its case (or holster) and laid it on top of the trunk while I finished fastening the straps around my bike.
On the way to the Centennial Trail, I began wondering what happened to my phone. I couldn't find it in the car, so I went home and looked around the driveway, circle drive, long driveway out to the road...no phone.
On the way to the Centennial Trail, I began wondering what happened to my phone. I couldn't find it in the car, so I went home and looked around the driveway, circle drive, long driveway out to the road...no phone.
I walked out to the main road and looked along the shoulder as I thought I'd seen something shiny in the sun while driving home. I found a small black plastic bottle with a shiny silver strip on it, so maybe that's what I'd seen. I looked some more then walked home. Then I looked around the car and our property again, tried calling my phone with my cordless phone from the house, but couldn't hear it.

So I decided to get in the car and drive again, the way I'd gone when I first left. I again saw something along the shoulder of the road. So as soon as I could, I found a place to pull over, and began walking back the way I'd come. After I'd walked a ways, all the time hoping my phone wasn't hiding in the ditch under all that grass that would make it impossible to spot, when lo and behold, there was my phone on the shoulder, upside down (not in the case). I quickly picked it up, then continued to scan for the case, and found it several feet away. Whoa....This had to be nearly .25 miles from my house! (Perhaps the bike rack caught it initially and slowed its fall?)
I walked back to the car, got in and drove to the Centennial Trail, where I checked my phone, and it was working!!! Last night I cleaned it, and noticed a couple tiny scratches on the back and some tiny gouges on the two hinges....Amazing...it could have been run over and totally flattened! So lesson learned...never set anything down on the outside of your car!
