Summer Fun - Runnin' in Seattle

Seafair Torchlight Run - Saturday, July 31st, 6:30 p.m. My very first running event in Seattle, since I've not been able to get enthused about the Rock-in-Roll full/half marathon in June that has around 25,000 participants. There was close to 5,000 for this event, an 8K and a 5K. Larry did the 8K, and I enjoyed the 5K.

Here are some pre-race shots of the registration/food/expo areas:

We were early enough that we could watch the final preparations for the race.

Looking ahead at the beginning of the course:

Waiting for the start in the biggest crowd I'd ever been in for a race!

A couple photos of the course that I "stole" from Seafair's Facebook page:

This year the course followed the parade route (after the race was the big Seafair Parade). So most of the streets were lined with spectators already in place. So this year they got to watch a race and a parade!

Me all finished! The 5K was more like three miles long. Would have been nice to get a time of 30 minutes or less, but no such luck. 32:24 was my time, just a little over the average time of 32:05 according to the results. What slowed me down probably was the need to drink water, as the temperature was somewhere over 70. I get hot very easily in Western Washington's humid climate! :)

I think my hubby is looking for me...I'd stopped to take his "mug shot!"
