Flying Saucer Clouds

Sure enough, last night the rain came.... I was inspired by a comment on yesterday's post to do an Internet search on sun dogs and clouds. "In a flash" (love high-speed/broad band), I found plenty of information by entering various descriptive words into Google. The strange cloud I saw yesterday was mostly certainly a lenticular (lens-shaped) cloud--also called a "flying saucer" cloud. It dominated the eastern sky above Mount Pilchuck. I really wish I could have photographed it--it was an amazing cloud. I copied some images that I found online that are the close as I can get to what I saw.

Unfortunately, they are quite small. :(

This one was captioned the Star Trek Enterprise, which is what I thought my cloud looked like, only with sunrise colors.

Glad you did some research on the clouds issue and what you saw up there...I'm always fascinated by clouds and love looking into the sky...there's often something "up there to see"...and if not, just to know that GOD is reigning supreme above it all.

Tell me, what does your triathalon consist of? A neighbor of ours is a real "marathoner" and enters lots of different runs/etc. He just completed a triathalon: 112 mile bike ride, 26.2 mile run, & 2.4 mile swim all in 10 hrs. & 58 minutes....whew!!!!

I'm committing myself to a 30-mile relay next February 09. 4 of us walk "two legs of the 30 miles"...in a race, but you CAN'T run you have to walk......

Yeah, the sky has always been one of my "favorite subjects!"

About triathlons: your neighbor did what's called an Ironman. (You know Jeff & Bonnita? Jeff's brother Stan has done an Ironman.) There's also a half Ironman--the swim, bike and run portions are each half the distance. Then there's Olympic distance 1.5K swim (or 1500 meters), 40K bike (22 mi.), 10K run. The most popular tri, and the one I'll hopefully do, is the Sprint. Sprint distances can vary, depending on the locationa and course, but usually, they are about a 1/2 mile swim, 20K or 12+ miles bike, and 5K (3.1 mi.) run. The one I want to enter is a little shorter, as it's billed as a "recreational" tri. (1/4 mile swim, 10 or 12 mile bike, 2.6 mile run.)
