On Thursday, Larry stayed home from work...and he ended having more "fun" than he'd bargained for!
Looks like the "picnic" is snowed in even more...!Larry wanted to move his Community Transit van over by the garage to load the back end with sand bags with the possibility of going to work on Friday. The van kept getting stuck in the heavy snow in front of our garage. Caroline and her friend from next door are looking on. Finally, he was able to maneuver the van where he wanted it...but he wasn't happy.
This is what our driveway looked like on Thursday heading out to the main road. We were thinking about going shopping early in the afternoon. The temperature was hovering right around freezing. Turns out the snow is especially slippery when it is at or slightly above freezing.
Larry decided to try the car...after a while he came back and told everyone to get their boots on to help push. The car had slid off our driveway part-way into the neighbor's yard.

We tried to dig out the left front tire, but it was stuck clear down into the mud. We felt bad about digging into the neighbor's yard. There was also snow underneath the car. I called AAA, but they said all tow tucks were busy with 911 calls. So Larry decided to try our truck that we bought a few months ago. It's only 2-wheel drive, but it has a limited slip differential (for those who know about those things). He transferred the sand bags to the back of the truck and made it up the driveway to the car.
Truck to the rescue!
Here he is attaching the rope to the car. I put the car in reverse and gave it a little gas as Larry backed the truck up. He used the emergency brake to put a little load on the limited slip, and easily towed the car out of it's hole. Then he got both vehicles back to the garage.

We called it a day...but after dinner, we decided to go shopping. The temperature had dropped to around 24, which was actually better for driving. The roads were heavily sanded--that a long with the ice made it sound and feel a little like driving on a gravel road (except the road surface was more hard-packed than normal gravel). Anyway, I was glad Larry was driving. At the store we saw Brian and Nadine, who were also shopping with Brian having been the driver. (Yes, husbands can be useful!)
Today the temperature this morning just before dawn was a little below 3 degrees. Thought it might get to 0; I'm sure it did at higher elevations. The National Weather Service says another storm is on the way to hit tonight with wind and more snow. So Larry is bringing in the firewood....
Next...more snow and more snow! (Oh, and I think we're moving to AZ as soon as possible!) :D
